Ship History

EARLY HISTORY OF THE DISCOVERY

• 1602: The East India Company hires Captain George Wymoth to explore the newly discovered Hudson Straits.
• 1610: The ship is taken by Henry Hudson in search of the elusive Northwest Passage.
• 1774: The H.M.S. Discovery, a British "Yorkshire Collier," is one of the ships that Captain James Cook takes on his third voyage.
• 1791-1795: Another converted "Collier" under the command of Captain George Vancouver is used in his voyage to circle the Earth.
• 1875-1876: The third H.M.S. Discovery, a 1,274 ton Whaler fitted for the Arctic, is used with other ships of Sir George Nare and the ALERT in a quest to find the North Pole.
• 1901-1904: Captain Robert Scott sails to the Antarctic (South Pole).
• 1984: NASA builds a fourth ship in the style of the ENTERPRISE Class Space Shuttle (STS) with the call letters of OV103.
• 2001: NCA launches the first manned probe to Saturn. Contact with the crew is lost for mysterious reasons.
• 2157: The USS Discovery, DAEDALUS Class, is converted into a warship in the first Romulan War." She is abandoned after sustaining major structural damage in the successful "Raid on Briamos."
• 2192: USS Discovery (NCC-971), a Canopus Class research vessel, visits 93 worlds as part of the second Federation-wide cultural survey.
• 2287: She is converted into a Constitution II Class heavy cruiser and participates in the treaty talks between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

EARLY UPDATE HISTORY

In 2343 Starfleet decides to design new classes of ships for the replenishment of the destroyed and outdated. Two of the new classes from this reformation are called the GALAXY and CHANG HO. The latter is named after a Fleet Admiral / Commander-in-Chief of the Chinese Imperial Navy, who was born in 1337 and died in 1420.

The GALAXY Class is either designed to be the new Heavy or the new Exploration Cruiser; it depends who you ask. The CHANG HO Class is designed to be a Tactical Cruiser, though it will be several years before the designs leave the drawing boards to actual construction. PRESENT UPDATE HISTORY

In 2363 Starfleet announces the USS Discovery (NCC-1308) will be built in the style of the CHANG HO with some upgrades to match the USS Dragonfire's combined ability to be both a Tactical and an Explorer Cruiser. The Construction starts at Space Station McKinley in the same year and is finished two years later.

It is now 2373 and this ship has been assigned to Starfleet's First Contact Department for the primary mission of exploring new worlds and new civilizations, and a secondary mission to follow up on the whereabouts and the recordings of previous deep space probes.

One of our new upgrades includes a new type of cloaking technology similar to the stealth technology of the 1990s.

We have onboard two of the new Danube Class Runabouts (USS Missouri NCC-73000 and USS Meramec NCC-73001), three of the Type 7 Shuttles (Admiral Robert E Peary, Carl Sagan and Edwin P. Hubble) and four of the type 15 Shuttlepods (Cahokia, Rene Auguste Chateau, Pierre Laclede and Charles Lindbergh).
